What's inside

What this local SEO audit checks

Generic SEO checkers grade your website in a vacuum. Local rankings are a knife-fight against the specific businesses in your market — so this audit scores you against them, by name.

Google Maps ranking — your whole market on one map

Every business Google returns for your money keyword, plotted as dots on a city-wide map: the 3-pack winners in green, you in gold. You'll see instantly whether you're winning your neighbourhood but invisible across the rest of the city — the most common local SEO problem there is.

Google Business Profile audit

Your GBP drives roughly a third of local ranking weight — the single most important asset in local search. The audit grades your listing's completeness, categories, photos and activity, and flags exactly what the top-ranked profiles in your market have that yours doesn't.

Reviews & reputation vs your market

Review volume, velocity and rating are among the strongest local ranking signals. You'll see the market average, your position on the leaderboard, and a concrete catch-up number: how many reviews per month you need to reach parity.

Website health & speed

Live Google PageSpeed scores (mobile and desktop) with Core Web Vitals — because slow pages both suppress rankings and lose the leads your rankings earn.

On-page, schema & NAP consistency

The factors Google and AI assistants read: title and meta tags, LocalBusiness and FAQ schema, image accessibility — plus a NAP spot-check comparing the phone number on your website against your Google listing. Mismatches quietly suppress rankings.

AI visibility

We check whether Google shows an AI Overview for your keyword and whether you're in it. Want the full AI picture? Run our ChatGPT visibility checker to see whether AI assistants recommend you or your competitor.

Methodology

How the score is calculated

The overall score out of 100 is weighted to mirror what actually moves local rankings, per industry local search ranking factor research: map-pack position carries the most weight, then Google Business Profile signals (~32% of local ranking weight), then reviews (~16–20%), then on-page and site health. Every check runs live — your Maps position, competitor data and PageSpeed scores are fetched at scan time, not estimated.

It's the same first-pass framework we use in paid engagements. The difference in the full engagement: a street-by-street ranking heatmap of your whole service area, a full competitor teardown across every keyword that matters, and the fixes done for you. That's what the free strategy call walks through.

How to do a local SEO audit — 7-step checklist

Want to audit your local SEO by hand? Here's the same framework our tool automates:

  1. Check your Google Maps 3-pack position for your money keyword ("[service] [city]") — from different points across your city, not just your office. Ranking near your address but nowhere else is the #1 local problem.
  2. Audit your Google Business Profile — is the primary category correct and specific? Are services, products, hours and photos complete? Are you posting? GBP drives ~a third of local ranking weight.
  3. Compare your reviews to the market — count reviews and average rating for the top-3 competitors. Note the gap and the reviews/month you'd need to catch up.
  4. Check NAP consistency — is your name, address and phone identical on your website, Google, Yelp and directories? Mismatches quietly suppress rankings.
  5. Test your page speed — run Google PageSpeed (mobile + desktop). Slow pages both hurt rankings and lose the leads rankings earn.
  6. Review on-page + schema — title/meta tags, LocalBusiness and FAQ schema, image alt text, a page per service and per neighbourhood.
  7. Check your AI visibility — does Google show an AI Overview for your keyword, and are you in it? Ask ChatGPT "best [service] in [city]" and see who's named.

Short on time? The tool above runs all seven live in ~60 seconds.

Why a local SEO audit is different

A generic SEO audit grades your website in a vacuum — meta tags, broken links, keyword density. A local SEO audit measures whether you win where local customers actually look: the Google Maps 3-pack, your Google Business Profile, and your reviews versus the specific businesses in your city. For a local business, those three factors decide the vast majority of who calls — which is why this audit scores you against your real competitors, by name, not against a checklist. Built in Vancouver: whether you need a local SEO audit in Vancouver or anywhere in North America, every scan runs on your own city's live market data.

Common questions

Local SEO audits, answered.

What is a local SEO audit?+
A local SEO audit measures how visible your business is where local customers actually look: the Google Maps 3-pack, local organic results, your Google Business Profile, your reviews versus competitors, and the technical health of your website. Unlike a generic SEO audit, it scores you against the real businesses competing for your customers in your city.
What does this free local SEO audit check?+
Six areas: your Google Maps ranking plotted on a full map of your market, your Google Business Profile completeness, your review count and rating versus the market average, website health via Google PageSpeed, on-page and schema factors, and whether Google shows an AI Overview for your keyword. You get an overall score out of 100 plus a prioritized fix list.
How is the audit score calculated?+
The weighting follows industry local ranking research: map-pack position and Google Business Profile signals carry the most weight (GBP signals drive roughly a third of local rankings), followed by reviews, on-page factors and site speed. The score reflects what actually moves local rankings, not vanity checks.
Do I need to give my email to run the audit?+
No — enter your website and you get your score, market map and headline issues instantly with no signup. Your email unlocks the full free report: the market leaderboard, reviews catch-up plan, NAP consistency check, the #1-competitor teardown, extra keyword rankings and your 90-day plan as a PDF.
What is a Google Business Profile audit?+
It checks the single most important asset in local search: your GBP listing — categories, photos, services, hours, posts, plus review volume, rating and velocity. Those signals drive both map-pack rankings and whether AI assistants recommend you. This tool includes a GBP audit in every scan.
How often should I audit my local SEO?+
Every 1–3 months, and any time you notice a drop in calls, a competitor overtaking you, or after a Google update. Rankings, reviews and competitor activity all shift continuously.
Should I do a local SEO audit myself or hire an agency?+
The DIY checklist above catches the obvious gaps. An agency audit adds a street-by-street ranking heatmap, a full competitor teardown, and — the real difference — the fixes done for you. That's what the free strategy call walks through.
Is this free local SEO audit really free?+
Yes — enter your website and get your score, market map and headline issues instantly with no signup. Your email unlocks the full free report (leaderboard, reviews plan, NAP check, competitor teardown, 90-day plan + PDF).
